Health & Wellness at Taos Day School
At Taos Day School, our Health and Wellness program supports the overall well-being of every student’s mind, body, and spirit. Our teachers, families, community members, and local agencies are committed to providing comprehensive health services and activities. Taos community’s involvement is vital to our students’ social, emotional, and physical growth.
Our holistic educational program embraces activities, outings, and lessons that promote more than physical health and development. Taos Day School believes in also developing its students' emotional, social, and cultural well-being. Our school days begin with morning wellness activities where students participate in mental and physical fitness exercises.
Dance: Students learn about the Taos Pueblo community’s culture of dance as well as keeping physically fit while being introduced to new cultures and styles of dance.
Yoga: Yoga teaches students to incorporate proper breathing and relaxation into their daily lives. It also helps students enhance overall flexibility, strength, and balance.
Taekwondo: Self-confidence, self-discipline, mental focus, and self-defense are just four of the benefits that Taekwondo, a Korean martial art, gives to our students.
Tai Chi: Students gain inner peace, balance, and harmony through the slow-motion movements of Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art focused on health promotion and rehabilitation.
Community Health Services
The Taos Pueblo Community prioritizes the overall well-being of all students by providing essential health services such as eye exams and dental sealants. Local agencies partner with our educational program to meet physical or mental developmental needs. Taos Day School educators invite community members to contribute to the growth and well-being of all students.
Community Involvement
Our community involvement and wellness program ensures that our students develop healthy habits, gain important life skills, and receive continual support for their overall well-being. We post upcoming activities, workshops, and initiatives on our website.
